and we'd be so stinking happy if you could be there.
Ours is the classic love story of girl meets boy on a dating app. (Thanks Bumble!) I'm not certain, but I probably swiped right because I thought Zach looked cute in pictures with his rugby short shorts, but during a busy season of work, I let the cute rugby man fall off my radar.
Thankfully, Zach proved to be 100 times more persistent than any other man on a dating app (in a non-creepy way), and wouldn't let me ghost him. After a few weeks of texting, we finally found an evening where I wasn't traveling or photographing other people in love.
Our first date at a local brewery turned into 7 hours of exploring Old Town Alexandria together, (including a not-so-scary ghost tour and a hidden speakeasy surprise for Zach) the conversation effortlessly flowing all the while. I knew I liked this guy when he let me DJ his radio and sang along with me to Chance the Rapper. I knew I REALLY liked this guy when he remembered my affinity for Chance and surprised me with tickets to see him in concert the very next week.
Almost three years, dozens of trails hiked, nine speakeasies discovered, countless charcuteries boards eaten, and exactly one giant ginger cat adopted later, my best friend knelt on the highest point in Shenandoah National Park in his rugby short shorts and asked me to marry him.
Call me a romantic but I never imagined I'd meet my best friend through a dating app. Yet in September 2016, I swiped right on a woman who seemed to share an uncanny number of interests with me: a love of camping, hiking and spending as much time as possible outdoors; a general interest in being a bit of a meathead in the gym, or at least finding new challenges that work up a sweat; a prioritization of traveling and exploring at home and abroad; and of course a fondness for food that sometimes toes the line of erasing all the aforementioned work in the gym. After several attempts at wooing her through text—and only a few days where I wondered if I'd been ghosted—Stephanie thankfully agreed to meet me for a date.
I planned our first date to include some conversation over craft beers and a ghost tour of Old Town Alexandria. (A perfect choice, if I do say so myself, because I'm a big ol' history nerd and a history-focused "ghost tour" is the upper limit for anything scary for Steph.) What I didn't see coming was Steph's surprise that night, when we walked into what I thought was a local donut shop, where suddenly the wall moved and was replaced by a hidden speakeasy. I was smitten.
Since then, Steph has taught me the impossible conundrum of learning to slow down while also somehow stuffing fifty activities into a weekend, an especially useful trick as time has always been a precious commodity during our relationship, with her unconventional schedule as a business owner and wedding photographer, and my own packed days of working full time and attending grad school. I wanted to make sure we had the rest of our lives to spend our precious time together, so I took her to the highest point in Shenandoah and asked her to marry me.

Except for maybe teleporting all of our friends and family to the mountains of Patagonia free of charge, we can't think of a way we'd more like to begin our marriage than by celebrating with you all weekend long in the great outdoors. Our venue is a year-round sleep away camp with all the fixins’—cabins, bunks, bonfires, a mess hall, archery, and maybe the coolest camp pool we’ve ever seen. Throughout the weekend we’ll have activities like archery, free swim, a movie night under the stars, karaoke, high ropes, and more. We’re really trying to live out our adult summer camp dream, here!

Camp Puh'Tok
Part of our dream for our wedding weekend is to have as many of our loved ones as possible stay at camp—we want you to be our fellow campers! Camp sleeps about 150 and it would be the highlight of our weekend to have you stay with us. (Second only to, you know, actually getting married.) Cabins are first-come, first-served and have rooms ranging from 16-18 people, each with heat + A/C, and fully functional bathrooms and showers. You know we like our outdoor adventures but don’t be fooled, this leans more toward Glamping than roughing it in the wild. Book early and you’ll probably get a cabin for your whole clan! Each bed is a twin either as a single or as a bunk. (How fun!) Please plan to pack a simple sleeping bag or sheets. (If you're flying in and need help with this, let us know!)
Staying at camp is $60 per person, whether you decide to stay for just Saturday night or both Friday/Saturday night. Talk about a steal for a wedding weekend! If you stay on property, you will also receive dinner Friday night, a light breakfast on Saturday morning, dinner, drinks, and dessert to celebrate our nuptials Saturday evening, and a farewell brunch on Sunday morning. But the real perk is being right where the action is all weekend long... no need to worry about driving home after a long night around the camp fire.
You in? Click the button to the left and let us know you'll be joining us at camp. We'll do everything we can to ensure you're in a cabin with the bunkmates that you request!
We get it, bunk life isn't for everyone. Ultimately, if you think you'll be more comfortable in a traditional hotel setting, no worries! We got you! We've secured a 15% off discount at the Residence Inn Baltimore Hunt Valley, a short 15-minute drive from camp. Book early to ensure availability! Use the link below to automatically apply your discount!
Looking for something a bit more home-y? There are a handful of great Airbnb's in the area, too!

BWI will be your best bet if you’ll be joining us from afar. Camp is an easy 45-minute drive from the terminal. Or, an easy MTA Light RailLink will get you even closer, just a 15 minute drive to Camp from the Hunt Valley station.
While it won’t quite get you to Camp’s front steps, the MTA Light RailLink will get you pretty darn close. It leaves every 30 minutes from BWI (accessible by plane or Amtrak), and will take you all the way to Hunt Valley, just a 15 minute drive from Camp.
Whether you’re coming from near or far, the end of your journey will probably be on the road. Camp is located just a few miles off of i-83, 30 minutes north of Baltimore. If you’re coming from the airport, let us know and maybe we can help coordinate a carpool!
We really can't tell you how much we appreciate you coming from far and wide to celebrate with us. We know travel isn't cheap and your attendance is as good as any gift. Who really needs a KitchenAid mixer, anyhow? (However, in the event you find it necessary, they are available at Zola).
